A girl, a sketchbook, and a dream that had to wait for AI.
Hi — I'm Kristy.
I've been drawing since I could hold a pencil. Sketchbooks stacked under my bed, Sharpie doodles on the sides of my Converse, half-finished paintings leaned against every wall in my apartment. I always knew I wanted my art on something people would actually wear. Sneakers, specifically. Loud, bold, impossible-to-miss sneakers.
Here's the problem: for twenty years, that dream did not work.
Launching a sneaker line used to mean one of two things. Option A: raise real money, fly to a factory, place a 5,000-pair minimum order of a single design, pray it sells, repeat. Option B: get a license with an existing brand, which means drawing inside someone else's box for the rest of your life. Both options require a team. Both require capital. Both require permission.
I had a sketchbook and a studio in my spare bedroom in Jupiter, Florida. Permission was not on the table.
So the dream waited.
Then everything changed.
Two things happened at roughly the same time. Print-on-demand manufacturing got good — really good. Companies like Printful can now print a single pair of custom sneakers with museum-quality color fidelity and ship them the same week. No factory order. No minimums. No warehouse full of shoes nobody wanted.
And AI got good enough to be my creative co-pilot — not to make my art for me (anyone who's tried prompting their way to an actual wearable design knows that doesn't work), but to be the infinite brainstorming partner, the color-theory sanity check, the "what if you pushed this further" voice I always wished I had in my head.
Put those two things together and suddenly the dream stopped waiting.
This is what HA!LO actually is.
One founder. One designer. One person reading your order notes. That's me.
Every HA!LO design starts as an original sketch in my head. I build it up in Procreate and Photoshop, using AI tools to riff, iterate, and explore directions faster than I could alone. Nothing is clip art. Nothing is licensed. Nothing goes live until I've approved the final file with my own eyes.
When you buy a pair, the file gets sent to Printful, our US-based manufacturing partner. They print it, pack it, and ship it to you from their US facility. Door-to-door takes 7–10 business days. There's no warehouse, no markdown bin, no 5,000 unsold pairs gathering dust somewhere. Just your pair, made specifically for you, after you ordered it.
That's how a one-person studio in Jupiter, Florida can release hundreds of original designs at accessible prices. The artwork is mine. The manufacturing is Printful's. That split is the whole trick. It's also the thing that makes this possible now and not twenty years ago.
About the name.
HA!LO is the brand name. Meet Hailo LLC is the company. We used to operate as shipsneakers.com — same founder, same studio, same zip code. In 2025 we rebranded to something that actually reflected the studio instead of just the shipping. If you ever see an old link or invoice with shipsneakers.com on it, that's us.
About the AI part (because I think about this a lot).
I'm the one who benefits most from being honest about this, so here's the truth: I use AI in my creative process. I'm proud of that. It's the reason this whole thing exists. A camera doesn't make someone less of a photographer. A synthesizer doesn't make someone less of a musician. AI doesn't make me less of an artist — it makes me an artist who finally has the leverage to do the work I've wanted to do my whole life.
Every design is my decision, my edit, my taste, my name. AI is the collaborator. I'm the author.
